How does the patient wake up from surgery?

Hasta Ameliyattan Nasıl Uyanır?

The patient who has undergone bariatric surgery is awakened at the end of the operation under the supervision of the anesthesiologist, with all vital functions closely monitored. The patient who is awakened safely is kept under observation for less than half an hour and then taken to his room in the ward. After this stage, you need to breathe in and out as deeply as possible. This procedure ensures that your lung functions are preserved.

In your bed, it would be appropriate to lie in a semi-sitting position with your upper body elevated. The aim here is to sit up in bed as soon as possible. You can also stand up and walk around your room within a few hours, which is very beneficial for your rapid recovery.

This tube (drain) is placed inside the abdomen during the surgery and its tip is extended outside, and is kept for a few days to control bleeding and leakage in the surgical field. You will not encounter any painful situations here. Even if a tube (nasogastric tube) is used during the surgery, it is removed before the patient wakes up.

The urinary catheter is usually inserted at the start of the operation after the patient has fallen asleep and is withdrawn on waking. In cases with a relatively long operation, the catheter may remain in place after the operation. On the first night of surgery, there may be some shoulder pain for a few hours due to the inflation of the abdomen with gas during surgery and some mild pain due to tiny incisions. Some patients may experience nausea and retching. These can be controlled with medication. Relief is expected within hours.

Depending on our experience, we prefer the day after surgery as the time to start drinking water after surgery.
