Who Suffers from Obesity

Obesity is Not a Cosmetic Problem
Obesity is not a cosmetic problem caused by overeating and lack of self-control. The World Health Organization defines obesity as a chronic progressive disease caused by many environmental and genetic factors. Obesity is an important health problem that not only affects the individual economically, but also affects the health of individuals in society, affecting their life expectancy and quality of life. Due to its progressive effect and secondary disease problems, obesity is a condition that needs to be kept under constant control and attention throughout life.

Am I Obese?
Obesity is a condition characterized by excessive accumulation of fat in the body. Body mass index BMI is one of the simplest methods used to define overweight and obesity. The most preferred method for determining the weight category and degree of obesity is the calculation method called the BODY MASS INDEX (BMI).
BODY MASS INDEX is the body weight in kilograms divided by the square of the height in meters. It does not change according to age and gender. It is a standard calculation for all adults.
Although there are some exceptions, the body mass index shows us the amount of excess body fat that an adult individual has. In its simplest form, it is calculated by dividing the person's kilogram weight by the height in square meters.
There are 5 values to classify obesity; 20 to 24.9 kilograms per square meter is considered normal.
A body mass index of 25 to 30 kilograms per square meter is considered overweight, a body mass index of 30 to 34.9 kilograms per square meter is considered class 1 obese, a body mass index of 35 to 39.9 kilograms per square meter is considered class 2 obese, and a body mass index of 40 kilograms or more is considered class 3 obese, i.e. morbidly obese.
The obesity we need to solve surgically is obesity with a body mass index of 35 and above.
If the body mass index is between 35 and 40, if the patient has diabetes, heart disease, elevated levels of bad fatty acids such as hypertriglyceridemia, hypercholesterolemia and sleep apnea syndrome, then surgical treatment is recommended.
