Who Can Have Obesity Surgery?

We have already mentioned that obesity occurs when the excess weight exceeds 25-30 kilograms. For such patients, the chance of achieving permanent weight loss with diet and exercise treatments is very low. Therefore, surgery is a valid and effective treatment option for people with morbid obesity. Patients with a body mass index above 40 (Grade III Obesity) are considered candidates for direct obesity surgery. People with a body mass index between 35-40 (Grade II Obesity) who have additional problems associated with obesity such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high blood lipids, temporary respiratory arrest during sleep, joint damage, depression, sexual dysfunction are also suitable for weight loss surgery.
It should be demonstrated that the cause of obesity consists of excessive calorie intake and that there are no problems such as hormonal diseases that cause obesity and require different treatments. Although there is no definite age limit for surgery, patients accepted for surgery are usually between the ages of 20-50.
