What is Type 1 Diabetes and Type 2 Diabetes (Diabetes)?
The pancreas needs insulin in order for the body to use glucose and take it as energy, and if this insulin is not produced at all, it means that the body cannot produce glucose. This condition is called Type 1 diabetes.
If the body produces insulin but cannot use it, this is called Type 2 diabetes.
The group of patients treated surgically is the Type 2 group.
Surgery is not recommended for people with type 1 diabetes. This is because it usually occurs in childhood or in patients who need insulin from outside.
The purpose of surgery in type 2 diabetes is to help the body use the insulin it produces.
In other words, for this surgery to be performed, the patient must not have Type 1 diabetes and still have a part of the pancreas that produces insulin.
