  • Patients who are not obese but overweight and have difficulty in controlling diabetes
  • Patients who are at a reversible stage before complications (problems difficult to control) of diabetes such as gangrene in the feet and legs, loss of vision, kidney and heart failure occur are candidates for metabolic surgery.

Although there is no definite age limit for metabolic surgery, these surgeries are performed between the ages of 18 and 60.

Among these surgeries, which we call metabolic surgery surgeries and are also applied in obesity treatment, Sleeve Gastrectomy (Gastric Sleeve Gastrectomy) surgery provides 40-60 percent control, Roux-en-Y Gastric By Pass 80 to 90 percent, and Mini Gastric Bypass 92 percent, enough to stop using medication in diabetics.

In other patients who cannot stop taking the drug, if they use insulin, they switch to a lower dose or blood sugar control is provided with oral anti-diabetic drugs.

If the obesity surgeon decides on surgery after examination and examinations, the type and day of surgery is decided after receiving the opinions of the endocrinologist, anesthesiologist and diet specialist.

Risks with other abdominal surgeries and anesthesia are necessary for this surgery.

Also;

  • Chronic bowel diseases such as Crohn's disease
  • Previous surgery related to the digestive system
  • This surgery cannot be performed on people who have developed adverse conditions (problems that are difficult to control) related to diabetes.
